Before relaxing this Labor Day Weekend, we at Drs. Matoba went up to Gilpin Community Center for our regular screening this past Friday August 31st.
This has been our second time this fiscal year, hence the peace sign “number 2” held by Dr. Kirk Matoba (left) and Dr. Joel Matoba (right). Although we were not permitted to give out prescriptions, we were able to give peace of mind to the many people who stopped by as we assess their ocular health and visual acuity.
It is always a pleasure to help the community, especially one that has been so welcoming to us. We look forward to coming again!
Drs. Matoba Optometrists had the pleasure of screening the Red Rocks Community College. Dr. Joel K. Matoba and Dr. Kirk S. Matoba were able to visit old stomping grounds at Red Rocks Community College were they spent time gaining credits towards their Optometric careers.
Drs. Joel, Kirk and Emily Matoba screened students and facility of both Lakewood and Arvada Campus on August 22nd and August 21st. The doctors gave advice, recommendations and resources for those seen.
As part of our mission to give back to the community, it was a great experience to give back to a institution that has helped our own doctors grow. We at Drs. Matoba Optometrists look forward to working with red Rocks Community College again in the future!
We at Drs. Matoba Optometrists are happy to say we have completed our first day working with Ensight Skills Center! Ensight is a non-profit organization that works to provide low vision tools, counseling and training that empowers independent and productive living. Ensight works with Optometrists in Low Vision and has an Occupational Therapist (OT) to help the patients use the devices and understand their own vision impairments better. The occupational therapist also will make home visits to help make sure the patient is comfortable with any new devices and help in guiding the patient to a more independent lifestyle.
We have formed a partnership where one Wednesday a month we see patients needing low vision evaluations with a trained OT. Drs. Kirk Matoba and Emily Matoba worked with patients with low vision to optimize the vision they have. They worked with an OT, Ms. Marks who helped explain utilization of devices and further options to be done at their home.
We look forward to continue this service to our patients with low vision needs!
Drs. Joel, Kirk and Emily Matoba had the pleasure of going up in the mountains yesterday for a day of teaching and screening at the Gilpin Community Center. Drs. Matoba LLC have worked with the Gilpin Community for a visual screening within the past year and were happy to come up again. Gilpin is a small tight-knit community nestled north of Black Hawk Casinos. The community Center provides a gymnasium, lunches for the seniors and a summer camp for the kids (just to mention some of the amenities it gives back to the residents).
Yesterday, the Doctors performed visual screenings on the elderly population before their lunch at the center. It was then followed by a presentation in the afternoon to the summer camp. Drs. Joel, Kirk and Emily explained what optometrists do as well as simulate different eye conditions such as myopia (near-sightedness) , hyperopia (far sightedness), cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. It was then followed by a screening for the general community.
It was an overall great experience for the doctors as well as the Gilpin residents. The Gilpin Community Center was more than welcoming to Drs. Matoba LLC. As a practice we are excited to continue providing these services to such a hospitable community!
Here at Drs. Matoba we enjoy not only giving optimal care to patient in our chair but also making an impact in our community. One program we work in is the B.U.I.L.D program at Brady High School.
Brady High School is school that allows students who have had issues finishing high school, work towards their high school diploma. A big emphasis is helping these students transition towards the goal of higher education. At Drs. Matoba, we help showcase the working environment of optometry, business and medical, all the while helping them formulate a good college application.
This has been our second time working with Brady High School. Drs. Joel and Kirk Matoba (pictured below) have been overseeing the students and have enjoyed being able to guide our future generation towards success and happiness. On May 18th we had the honor observing his Capstone presentation made by our intern on what he had learned through being a part of our practice.
